Jes studies BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching at Hartpury whilst also coaching the Gloucester-Hartpury Rowing Programme.
Jes's Hartpury Experience
"I started off just shadowing Tom (Pattichis, rowing academy manager) and learning from him, occasionally helping with the sessions run at the rowing club for the younger athletes, aged 11 to 14. In the first year of my degree studies, I took on responsibility for my own group of junior rowers at Gloucester Rowing Club and was involved with coaching the novice athletes on the Gloucester Hartpury programme. This included all the coaching, so a minimum of 10 hours a week, plus all the administrative work; emails, planning the sessions, talking to parents etc. Now I’m in my third year of my Sports Coaching degree, I’m the lead coach for the 14 to 16-year-olds at the club and I have 30 athletes training with me at various levels."
Developing Industry Connections
"I’ve also had the opportunity to work with a para rower (arms and shoulders) and I was invited to attend several camps with the Great Britain Para Rowing Development team. The camps took place in Scotland, Peterborough, Nottingham and Marlow. This included training on land, tank and on the water and I had the chance to travel all over the UK for racing and trials. My time at Hartpury University has been fantastic for my coaching CV and given me so many opportunities to put the theory I have learned on my degree into practice."
