PhD student

Celeste Wilkins

Celeste is a PHD student at Hartpury researching rider posture and its influence on how the horse and rider sync up. This includes the biomechanics and physiology of equestrian rider technique.

Celeste's Hartpury Experience

"I studied my undergraduate degree at Hartpury and loved being around people who were as crazy about horses as I am. During

my degree, I saw a real need to make research relevant to the everyday horse owner through good writing. After graduating, I secured a job as a writer for Horse & Hound. I believe that having Hartpury on my CV made such a difference to getting that role. Following a successful career as an equine journalist, I decided to come back and study for my PhD.

Every day is different, but I spend a lot of time reading, writing and carrying out various data collection sessions for my studies. Hartpury has two of the most advanced riding simulators in an education setting. I’m able to focus on rider movement, before taking my research to a real horse.

Every day, I get to come to a beautiful place to study what I love – not many people can say that!"

Developing Industry Connections

"Hartpury is a place where you can study a top-quality qualification and gain the industry know-how to move into a leadership or technical career. It has the perfect mix of industry and education. I have access to so many experts in equine performance, as well as wider sporting disciplines."
