Simon studied an undergraduate degree at Hartpury and has since gone on to work at Bristol Aquarium as a Guest Experience Manager.

Simon's Hartpury Experience

"I’m really passionate about zoo and aquarium education in particular, so I specialised in this area for my masters degree. There’s a bit of a gap in knowledge here. I used my scientific research project to explore this area in more detail and contribute to the existing body of knowledge.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Hartpury too, which gave me an in-depth understanding of animal behaviour and interactions. The field trip to South Africa was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We saw rhinos and giraffes in their natural environment, learnt about different behaviour and conservation techniques, and discussed real-life issues such as poaching.

Hartpury has everything you need on site – I loved the practical sessions with the different animals and volunteering with lambing at the farm."

Developing Industry Connections

"As Guest Experience Manager at Bristol Aquarium, I’m responsible for making sure school visits and events are enjoyable, safe and educational. The most amazing part of my job is seeing that spark of joy in young people, often discovering these amazing species and marine life for the first time. It makes everything worthwhile, as the future is in their hands. I’ve always loved animals and am driven to make a difference. If I can inspire the next generation of conservationist to look after our oceans, then I know I’m doing my job right."
