How do I apply for a course at Hartpury?

You will need to be signed up to UCAS and follow their process for application. The institution code for Hartpury is H22. 

When do I apply?

Again, you will need to follow the UCAS application process, but once you have made a decision, it is best to apply as soon as possible. The first deadline for applications is in mid-January.

How many UCAS points do I need to study at Hartpury University?

Our entry requirements vary depending on the course.  For more information, please find the relevant course page here.

How and when do I apply for accommodation?

You can apply for accommodation from the end of March. In May, rooms are allocated to students who have put Hartpury down as their first/firm choice and in June, you will receive a letter confirming your room allocation. You can find out more on the accommodation page.

How much is the on-site accommodation?

Prices for our accommodation packages vary.  Visit our accommodation page for more information.

What is it like living on-site?

For a lot of students, it will be your first time living away from home but don’t panic! You will quickly find yourself meeting everybody else in your accommodation block and before you know it; your block will be just like home! Applicants receive a number of ‘Coming to Hartpury’ publications before they arrive with tips and information that will help them settle in quickly.

Can I bring my own car with me?

Yes, you can bring your own car with you. There is a parking charge for the year and you will need to purchase a permit when you enrol.  More information can be found on our Transport page.

How easy is it to get about without my own car?

There is a bus stop on-site next to the sports academy, and there is a regular bus service throughout the day that takes you to Gloucester city centre. All of our transport information can be found here.

Can I use the sports facilities if I am not on a sports course?

Yes.  The gym is available to all students with a membership. The sports hall and 3G football pitch can also be booked for free throughout the day, depending on availability. More information can be found here.

What recreational sports are available?

We offer a wide range of activities available to all students. From Ultimate Frisbee to Basketball, Hockey and even cheerleading, there is guaranteed to be something which you will enjoy! There are also many opportunities to participate in local sports, clubs and activities around Gloucester and Cheltenham.

What is the social/nightlife like at Hartpury?

Legends is the Student Union bar on site at Hartpury, which also serves food. It is open every day and night and there are regular events and promotions throughout the year. There are two popular student nights; students tend to go out in Cheltenham on Monday while Gloucester is the setting for Wednesday. In the daytime, students also enjoy socialising in our ‘Costa’ coffee shop – Red and Black – and in the student restaurant – Graze. In the summer, picnicking and relaxing in our beautiful grounds becomes very popular!

What events happen on-site?

There are regular events held across the campus throughout the year. The jewels in the crown are the major equine events held here - the Showjumping Spectacular and the Festival of Dressage in July and the International Horse Trials in August. Sports fixtures are played on Wednesday afternoons, with many people flocking to see the rugby or football fixtures with our senior teams playing at the highest level. Our club rugby side, Hartpury University RFC, plays in National League One on Saturdays, and students get in free.

How far away are the closest towns?

The city of Gloucester and Cheltenham town are both close to Hartpury. Gloucester is only five miles away from the campus, while Cheltenham is 10 miles. Both places are clearly signposted and are easily accessible! They have a wide range of shopping, eating and leisure opportunities, including Gloucester Quays, which features outlet shopping, restaurants, bars, cafes and a new cinema as well as regular themed weekends and festivals.

Can I transfer to Hartpury from another Higher Education provider?

Yes, you can. We have lots of experience in supporting students transfer from other higher education providers successfully.

The structure of our courses means that you can transfer into different points of the course dependent on your previous academic and industry experience. We may have to look into your previous experience or study as the equivalent of some entry criteria or to see which year of the course you can enter.

I want to transfer to Hartpury but I think that I may have already learnt about some of the topics in the course I want to do. Will I have to study the modules again?

If you have already learnt some of our course then this may exempt you from having to study some of our modules.  You will be given credit (but not normally marks) that you can use towards meeting the credit requirements of one of our awards.

Prior learning that has been accredited or certificated by another organisation, including anything learnt on work experience, can be recognised. The exempt learning following the recognition of prior learning will be shown on your final certificate of credit.

I am already studying at Hartpury. Can I transfer to another course at Hartpury?

Yes. If you are studying here then you can transfer between courses at Hartpury.

If you think that you might want to transfer course then the first person to speak to is your academic personal tutor. Your personal tutor will be able to provide support and talk to you about the different options available specifically to your circumstances, aims and ambitions.

We would also support you in planning out any implications in terms of time and money.

Yes, you can transfer to another higher education provider.

If you are thinking of transferring to another institution, we can support you in discussing the options available and any potential implications in relation to your current course.

You will also need to talk in detail to the new institution and we can support you in collating the required information.

Can I bring my horse? What are the livery options available and how much will it cost?

Yes, you can bring your own horse to Hartpury.  We have stabling for around 150 horses available. Applications for livery open on 31 March.

Can I still ride at Hartpury if I don't bring my own horse?

Yes, there are loan horses available which you can use. Students can also access riding lessons and assessment, as well as joining the student run equestrian club.
