Course Overview

If you want to work with animals and manage every aspect of their care, our Animal Management BTEC diploma is for you. Our students study a range of topics related to the animal management industry, including Animal Welfare, Animal Behaviour, Breeding, Health, Genetics, Ecology and Conservation, Aquatics, and Human-Animal Interaction.

You’ll apply theory through practical sessions in our extensive animal collection. Work experience will help you broaden your experience in a real-life setting.

This course is for students that have completed the Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Animal Management.

Achieve a merit or above in Level 3 National Extended Certificate Animal Management, grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics and receive a satisfactory reference from course tutor

On successful completion of this course and a suitable reference from a tutor, you are able to progress onto a Foundation degree or Honours degree (subject to entry requirements).

Career opportunities include:

  • Kennel or cattery worker
  • Pet shop manager
  • Veterinary assistant or receptionist
  • Animal collection worker or technician
  • Carer or warden within charity organisations such as the RSPCA or Blue Cross and dog handler or trainer

  • Zoological Animal Health and Husbandry
  • Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Management
  • Investigative Research Project

This course will include a range of different assessment methods, including written exams.

During this programme of study, you will also be given the opportunity to attend a residential study tour to Borneo, where you can experience wild flora and fauna first hand within a biologically diverse environment and appreciate a culture very different to our own.
